Breeders are doing well

The breeders are doing well. Starting get an average lay rate already and they aren't 8 weeks old yet. I've place some of their eggs in the incubator to see what kind of hatch rate I get this early. I don't expect a great rate until after the birds are about 8 weeks old. I am keeping records so I know which hens are laying the best and I may offer those quail eggs at a premium price!

Let me know if you want eggs or live birds

I'm getting fertile eggs now and will be selling eggs and chicks soon.  There are new regulations out that will require me to have my stock NPIP certified which will cost some extra money and therefore the increase in my cost will be reflected in the price of the quail eggs and quail chicks.  However, you will be comforted to know that you are getting quality, disease-free stock that is in compliance with USDA regulations.

I'm recommending that you write me at waltersingingr@gmail.com and let me know of your needs for fertile hatching eggs or live chicks.  I will have published prices as soon as I get all the numbers together.  Obviously, letting me know you want eggs or chicks will not obligate you to purchase but will give me an idea of the demand that is out there.  Once I get firm pricing I will write you back and let you know.  At that point we can make payment arrangements if you are still interested.  I will be using PAYPAL as the payment method to begin with.

I may be switching to a shopify account in which case, it will expand the payment options I can accept but I have not made a firm decision on that yet.  I'll update this site as soon as I know which direction I am going in.  Thanks to all who have been faithful followers and be sure to check out the FB page and request to join!

It is so amazing to see how quickly these quail grow.  They are truly the broiler chicken of the quail market!  :0)

Starting to move into the quail building

I've made some more progress lately.  I have moved my quail from the brooder boxes in the basement to my growout cage in the building.  I've also installed an exhaust fan and started moving the cages into the building.

Quail in the brooder!

Go my first batch hatched and have another order of eggs coming this week.  Want to be sure I have enough birds to pick out the largest and healthiest for my breeding stock.

New Feeders and Cage Doors getting installed

Here's a couple of pic's of the feeders I'm making and one with the feeder installed.  I used vinyl gutters (about 7 bucks each) from Lowes and caulked in the endcaps.  I made my last feeders this way and they worked great.  I'll show you the secret to keep the quail from wasting feed when we get to that point

Finally, got some eggs in the incubator and in 17 days I will have Jumbo Brown Coturnix quail chicks again.  I am pumped!

Free Quail Cage Stand

Picked up two of these plant stands from a big box store when they were finished with them - free!  You always need to have eyes open to "other" uses for things.  I often just walk around a big box store looking at everything and trying to imagine what I could use it for that it was never intended to be used for!  (if that makes sense!!!)

Next I'll be putting the doors in (ordered the spring closers today) and then attaching the cup watering system.  They are made specifically for quail and are a little lighter than those used for chickens or rabbits.  I'll put some pics of those in and some contact info as to where to buy them.  After that I will be making the feeders from vinyl gutter stock.  Used it before and it was great.  I'll also show a secret that was given to me and helped cut my feed loss by at least 20%!!!

New Facebook group started

In the hopes of spreading the wealth of information available from all of those who raise quail, I've started a FaceBook group where you can post questions, photos and give advice to other quail raisers.  Take advantage of this and help to make it a worthwhile place for us all to go!

Quail Cages Being Built!!

Quail cages are finally going together at the farm.  Got three built today and will build 2 more this weekend.  I will start with 5 cages, each holding 9 hens and 3 cocks.  This should give me around 200 eggs a week to sell.  Not a lot but I'm not a big commercial quail producer.  I am going to produce smaller quantities but have better quality with more attention being paid to living conditions and egg care.  My little building will allow me to grow to about 600 a week and at that time I will build a bigger barn - Lord willing!

It won't be long and I will have everything in place to open for business again.  Once I get going I will produce an updated version of my quail book with new pictures and photos.  This time the E-book will be priced at $10.00. I have been giving the first edition away for many years now but I feel it is only fair that I should be able to reap some payback for the time and money spent to get you quality information on how to raise the jumbo brown coturnix quail. I hope you will agree!  The current version will still be available for $5.00 (paypal) until the new book comes out.

Blessings in Christ Jesus,

Wally

New Building finally ready for cages

I can't believe I finally have a building to start the business with again!  Granted, it's small, but many great things came from small beginnings. I should be able to get my production up to about 500+ eggs per week available to sell once I get everything in place.  I'll update the progress as I go along.

I just want to say that the response to requests for my free quail book have been great and I hope that it is a blessing to all those who have requested it to help them get started on their quail-raising journey!

Blessings in Jesus Christ,

Wally

PS  The dog run attached to the building will actually be for my chickens - which will be coming soon as well.  I have to build a small coop area off the ground inside the fence and then I will put about 5-7 hens in there.
